Since we know that learning table manners is easier with a sprinkle of fun, a scoop of patience,
and plenty of sweet compliments, here is a list of manners for children ages three to nine.
Depending on their age, small lessons go a long way. Please don’t forget to put away all
cellphones, and iPads to enjoy your sweet dinner together!

Here are a few sweet crumbs of wisdom on manners used at the table:

  • 1) Wash hands before eating
  • 2) Help set the table (depending on age)
  • 3) Place a napkin on little laps
  • 4) Wait until everyone has their food before beginning to eat
  • 5) Instead of reaching across the table, say, “Please pass the __,” and remember to say,
  • “Thank you!”
  • 6) Talk when your mouth is empty.
  • 7) Chew, chew, chew (no rushing or gobbling)
  • 8) Use utensils correctly (fork, spoon, and later a knife with guidance)
  • 9) Have them use a napkin to wipe mouth and hands.
  • 10) Thank the Chef(s) for taking time to make the delicious meal
  • 11) Say, “Excuse me,” before leaving the table.

Thank you for taking the time to read today’s blog post, Table Manners for Children. With much love, I share my first children’s book, A Thank-You Celebration, with you and your little ones. I hope that you enjoy the message of love, joy, kindness, and gratitude!
